In 2013, The Wonder Guild established an innovation practice dedicated to making the world a healthier place by developing market-based solutions (ventures, products, and services) for the socioeconomic determinants of health—access to and quality of healthcare, the environment, social context and equality, income and wealth equity, and housing and food.
From the beginning we were interested in the opportunities created by the Affordable Care Act–in terms of expanded access to health insurance for Guild families and in terms of the historic opportunity for enterprises outside of healthcare to explore how they might improve health outcomes and equity using new technologies, administrative, business, delivery, payment, and pricing models.
As time has passed, we’ve become deeply involved in developing solutions for homelessness and housing insecurity, food insecurity, aging in place, waste, mental health for communities of color, global climate change, and closing the US wealth-health gap.
Unfortunately and fortunately, there is still much work to be done.
